The Early Years of Journal of Public Policy & Marketing
Journal of Public Policy & Marketing

My term as editor of Journal of Public Policy & Marketing (JPP&M) began in summer 1986, when Tom Kinnear approached me with the offer of being the second editor. I was flattered that he would ask and was eager to do it. Because I was an associate professor at the time, it was important to get the approval of my department chair, Mike Etzel, and Dean Frank Reilly at the University of Notre Dame. They were both enthusiastic about the offer. Thus, my term of five and a half years began. (The American Marketing Association [AMA] did not take over the journal until well into my time as editor, and thus my term was not limited to three years.)
